Inlistr vs Google Forms

Most people organising a class party or a club rota reach for Google Forms, because it is free and already there. It works. The question is what happens to the answers afterwards.

Google Forms is a form builder. Inlistr is a sign-up list. If you need free-text answers, file uploads or branching questions, use Forms — it does far more than we do. If you need "who is bringing what", with limited places and data that clears itself out, that is the job we built for.

Where Google Forms is better
  • Any question you like — free text, multiple choice, file uploads, branching logic.
  • Responses land in a spreadsheet you can sort, filter and chart.
  • Deep integration with the rest of Google Workspace.
  • You almost certainly already have an account.
Where we are better
  • Places run out. A task with two spots shows two spots, and closes when they are taken.
  • Everyone sees the list, so nobody brings the fourth bowl of potato salad.
  • Participants can remove themselves without asking you.
  • The list deletes itself. No spreadsheet of parents’ emails sitting in your Drive next year.
  • Nothing to sign into, for you or for them.
In short

If the answer needs a spreadsheet, use Google Forms. If the answer is a list of people and what they are bringing, and you would rather it did not outlive the event, use this.
